Interactive Light Installation
Lights, boxes, cable, steel
This was an interactive light installation. I hung boxes,
side by side, from the ceiling and strung a single light
down into each. The boxes hung in a single horizontal layer
in space, about 3.5 feet from the floor. The sides of the
boxes that were visible, without disturbing the rectangle,
were painted black. The inner sides of the boxes, the ones
faced each other, were painted white and had holes burned
through them. Viewers were encouraged to disturb the boxes,
pushing them, walking between them and separating them.
When they did this, the boxes would move and expose the
white sides with the holes, revealing the light. The room
would change from almost black, to glowing from the
different pockets of light- all triggered by the movements
and actions of the viewer.
